Uphill all the way ...
English: “an uphill struggle” = very difficult, requiring excessive effort in unfavourable circumstances.
German: “es geht bergauf” = things are improving.
It’s funny that these seemingly opposite meanings of similar metaphors can actually be non-contradictory.
Coming back from injury in any sport is an uphill struggle. But it’s a struggle to enjoy, because every tough day is a step towards improvement.
And anyway, isn’t it all about the journey?
The Stanserhorn Berglauf got me off to a better start than I could have hoped for, just 50 seconds off the course record at my first race back. Followed by the Rugghubel Berglauf and Rigi Berglauf. Rigi is my "home" Berglauf: I can see the mountaintop from home, and it's a big one! I was delighted with that win, and enthused enough to run back down the mountain - ouch, that hurt the day after!
